{"id":143,"date":"2008-08-23T09:09:26","date_gmt":"2008-08-23T08:09:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stoerke.local\/when-might-i-abide-in-such-a-place\/"},"modified":"2018-03-28T07:09:33","modified_gmt":"2018-03-28T06:09:33","slug":"when-might-i-abide-in-such-a-place","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stoerke.local\/when-might-i-abide-in-such-a-place\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;When might I abide in such a place&#8230;&#8217; &#8211; Shantideva"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When might I abide in such a place,<br \/>\nA place unaclaimed, by nature ownerless,<br \/>\nThat\u2019s wide and unconfined, a place where I might stay<br \/>\nAt liberty without attachment?<\/p>\n<p>In solitude, the mind and body<br \/>\nAre not troubled by distraction.<br \/>\nTherefore, leave this wordly life<br \/>\nAnd totally abandon mental wandering.<\/p>\n<p>Penetrative insight joined with calm abiding<br \/>\nUtterly eradicates afflicted states.<br \/>\nKnowing this, first search for calm abiding,<br \/>\nFound by those who joyfully renounce the world.<\/p>\n<p>There in these lovely gleaming woods,<br \/>\nWith joy that\u2019s marred by few afflictions,<br \/>\nI shall pacify all mental wandering.<br \/>\nAnd there remain in blissful solitude.<\/p>\n<p>In pleasant dwellings formed of massive stone,<br \/>\nAnd cooled by sandal trees beneath the moon,<br \/>\nIn woodlands wafted by the gentle breeze,<br \/>\nOur minds intent on bringing good to others.<\/p>\n<p>Those whose minds are practised in this way<br \/>\nWhose happiness it is to soothe the pain of others,<br \/>\nWill venture in the hell of unremitting agony<br \/>\nAs swans sweep down upon a lotus lake.<\/p>\n<p>The oceanlike immensity of joy<br \/>\nArising when all beings will be freed,<br \/>\nWill this not be enough?
